African Variations

African Variations -Giniaux/soumano

// Mali • France //

After a first collaboration on the album « Mélodie des Choses » (2012 Sébastien Giniaux (acoustic guitar, cello) and Chérif Soumano (kora) find themselves this time in duet for an intimate dialogue between jazz and African music, between traditions and current musics. AFRICAN VARIATIONS is a dialogue between kora and guitar, between two continents, between two cultures and two virtuoso musicians. It one is concentrated by surprises on stage as on record.

Sébastien Giniaux
Guitarist and cellist of exception, we were able to see Sébastien Giniaux beside Didier Lockwood, Biréli Lagrène or Taraf de Haidouks. Composer and prolix arranger, he(it) realized albums for Norig, Téofilo Chantre while developing his(its) universe on the borders of the jazz, the classic and the musics of the world.
(« Mélodie des Choses » LDC Records / Cristal Records, 2012).

Chérif Soumano
Malian and player of Kora by tradition, played beside Kabine Kouyate, Mamani Keita, Moussa Sissokh, Puddle Sanogo, Yacouba Sissoko, Lansine Kouyate, Edsel Gomez, Ira Coleman, Minino Garay within the framework of a project on the fusion(merger) of the malian music and the jazz introduced by the American Diva Dee Dee Bridgewater in 2008. He(it) also occurred in the side of the singer of Ivory Coast reggae Tiken Jah Fakoly as well as on the last project of the bass player Marcus Miller, “Afrodeezia”. By drawing from the roots of the jazz, by sharing a culture and by participating in a Malian mode of creation, this passionate project mixed the differences and reflects the resemblances of the jazz and the African music. Chérif is of these stunning artists, with an ease on stage collusive and generous.
